Meeting Notes, May Crown, 2010
by HL Aelianora de Wyntringham
We had about 6 people in attendance. The meeting time was mixed up in the schedule, so there was some confusion. We discussed the following:
Sample Box: We need members and interested parties to contribute samples to our Guild sample box. We will be collecting samples until December which should give people time to make something. We will present our final Guild charter to their Majesties, and display the sample box and its contents, at 12th Night, 2011.
The samples do not need to be large. In fact, anything over about 4 by 6 inches will be too big. If you are interested in doing a sample but still have questions, email aelianora.
- Possible Guild Sponsored Contest at 12th Night: A Thing and Its Embellishment.
Requirements for the contest will be fairly simple, the thing (whatever object is being embellished) needs to be period, as does the embellishment upon it. Both object and embellishment need to belong to the same period (e.g. do not embellish a Viking tunic with raised Elizabethan embroidery). The object and embellishment do not have to be made by the same person; the entry can be a team effort. Judging will be done by the officers of the Guild and anyone we care to consult. In other words, this is not a formal challenge by any means. Documentation will be required, but nothing more than a 3 by 4 card or 1/2 piece of paper can hold.
This contest will be a fun and simple way to get the Guild's name out in the Kingdom. It is also a great way to show what we can do, and invite others to participate as well. The contest would be open to anyone, and will be highly publicized before 12th Night.
- Possible Guild Sponsored College or Ithra: This is a long range project for next year. Please think about what you might like to learn or teach at such an event!
- Challenge Categories: The Guild needs to tighten up and expand the categories of embellishment acceptable for challenges. Let's start a discussion about this and see what we can come up with.
